Waqf Act hearing: SC gives Centre 7 days to file response

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Union government, state governments, and waqf boards to submit their responses within seven days to the batch of petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act. The court also asked the petitioners to file their rejoinders within five days after receiving the replies. The Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, senior lawyer appearing for the Centre, assured the top court that it will not appoint non-Muslims to waqf boards or de-notify existing waqf till the interim prayer of petitioners is decided by the Court.
